Full Disclosure

If you haven’t heard this today, you should.

Just rolling out of Wednesday’s lunch Bible study where we’re slogging through St. John’s Gospel. From Chapter 16:13-15 today:

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”)

There is much richness in these three short verses but what came to mind was the dark wood paneling of a lawyer’s office. A last will and testament is being read. The Great Attorney (aka the Holy Spirit) is disclosing all the rights and inheritances given by the Father to the Son.

Stunningly he then turns to us and continues. By virtue of being brought into the Family of God by way of the Cross, he says, the King has commanded that his kingdom and all of his estate now belong fully to us as well.

There are endless Hollywood fantasies about a pauper discovering he is a prince or a young maiden being revealed as a princess.

Such is reality for the Christian.
